Common use of Master Patient Index (MPI) Clause in Contracts

Master Patient Index (MPI). Statewide patient identity management that achieves global patient identification, enabling consent management and clinical document exchange. The MPI: Allows HIOs to register patient identifiers they use in their domain in the P3N MPI; Maintains all systems’ patient identifiers in a single location; Includes patient demographics and IDs for the purpose of matching patients with medical records maintained by disparate systems; Contains the sum of collected MPI Data from all contributing HIOs and links these identities to form a composite view of a patient. The composite is identified by a P3N patient ID linking all HIO patient IDs; Is fed with patient IDs and demographic Data from HIOs and queried for P3N patient IDs using Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (“IHE") specifications and HL7 messaging standards and transactions; and Can only be Accessed directly by PA eHealth personnel for administrative purposes and the contracted P3N vendor for maintenance purposes.
