Measurement of BMD at the lumbar spine Each subject was positioned supine on the DXA scanning table, with legs elevated on to a foam block at 90o (Figure 2.4). This position reduces lumbar lordosis and keeps both femora aligned and flat on the table, enhancing the visibility of the lumbar vertebrae for accurate image analysis (Figure 2.4). To ensure that the fifth to first lumbar vertebra (L1- L5) was visible in the field of view (FoV), the scan position was initiated at the midline at approximately 1 inch below the iliac crest (Figure 2.5).
