A Primary Partner is a district/school where WGU places Teacher Candidates for a Field Experience with Cooperating Teachers, with an aim to co-construct a mutually beneficial arrangement for clinical preparation and the continuous improvement of Teacher Candidates, and to share accountability for Teacher Candidate outcomes. The school administrator and Cooperating Teacher will have the opportunity to provide critical feedback to inform program improvement through surveys at the end of each cohort and will receive an invitation to participate in an annual focus group.

A placement site is a District where University places Candidates for a Clinical Experience with Mentor Teachers/principals, with an aim to co-construct a mutually beneficial arrangement for clinical preparation and the continuous improvement of Candidates, and to share accountability for Candidate outcomes. The school administrator and Mentor Teacher will have the opportunity to provide critical feedback to inform program improvement through surveys at the end of each experience.
Mutual Expectations. The relationship between incumbent and curate is both personal and professional and each will have expectations of the other in these areas. It is important that those mutual expectations are declared openly as early as possible in the relationship so as not to cause frustration later. Although final authority at a parish level rests with the incumbent, there is a degree to which authority is delegated to the curate. In relation to any given task, the extent of this delegation needs to be made clear. With respect to confidentiality, the curate needs to know what (if any) material is to be treated as confidential, not to be shared with the incumbent, and what is not confidential and may be shared with the incumbent. Experience has shown this to be an area of potential misunderstanding. The learner and supervisors have discussed the purpose of ministry in the parish/benefice and how the incumbent sees his or her role in relation to the congregation and community. We have agreed the following mutual expectations (these may be under the headings below, or in another form): What the incumbent can expect of the curate … What the curate can expect of the incumbent …. Parameters of authority and confidentiality … Training needs… It is the responsibility of the learner to participate in identifying their personal training needs; to co-operate with the supervisors; to attend training programmes provided by the diocese; and to keep an appropriate record of their development according to diocesan guidelines over the period of the training post. It is the responsibility of the incumbent and learner to identify opportunities for training in the parish, in accordance with diocesan/national guidelines where available, and the Formation Criteria in particular. It is agreed that there will be consideration of the learner’s specific training needs relating to their personal development and IMD.
