NEW EQUIPMENT AND PROCESSES. (a) No regular Employee having two (2) years of continuous service on the date of this agreement shall be discharged as a result of the introduction of new equipment and processes, if there is another position available within the scope of the union and the Employee agrees to retrain for that position. (b) In the event that there is no other position available or the Employee is unable to become competent within three (3) months (the Employer to be the sole judge of competence) or is unwilling to train for new processes, he/she will be paid one (1) week's pay for each year of continuous service up to a maximum of thirty (30) weeks pay in lieu of the severance pay provisions outlined in Article 8 of this Agreement. (c) The employer agrees to schedule a meeting every six months to discuss the replacement or upgrading of existing equipment and the purchase of any new equipment. Any training deemed necessary by the employer for existing employees to operate the equipment efficiently will begin as soon as reasonably possible as per current employer practice.
