New type approvals. 12.1.2.1. Subject to the provisions of paragraph 12.2., as from 1 October 1996 Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall grant approvals only if the vehicle type to be approved meets the requirements of this Regulation as amended by the 08 or 09 series of amendments.
12.1.2.2. Subject to the provisions of paragraph 12.2., as from 1 October 1998 Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall grant approvals only if the vehicle type to be approved meets the requirements of this Regulation as amended by the 09 series of amendments.
New type approvals. 13.2.1. Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs 13.4. and 13.5., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall, from the date of entry into force of the 05 series of amendments to this Regulation, grant an ECE approval to an engine only if that engine satisfies:
(a) the relevant emission limits of ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇, ▇▇ or C in the tables to paragraph 5.2.1. of this Regulation;
(b) the durability requirements set out in paragraph 5.3.;
(c) the OBD requirements set out in paragraph 5.4.;
(d) the additional provisions set out in paragraph 5.5. (a) In accordance with tables of paragraph 5.2.1. of this Regulation.
(b) In accordance with paragraph 5.4. of this Regulation, gas engines are excluded from OBD stage I.
(c) In accordance with paragraph 5.5. of this Regulation.
13.2.2. Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs 13.4. and 13.5., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall, from 9 November 2006, grant an ECE approval to an engine only if that engine satisfies all conditions set out in paragraph 13.2.1. and the additional provisions set out in paragraph 5.5. of this Regulation.
13.2.3. Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs 13.4.1. and 13.5., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall, from 1 October 2008, grant an ECE approval to an engine only if that engine satisfies:
(a) the relevant emission limits of rows B2 or C in the tables to paragraph 5.2.1.
(b) the durability requirements set out in paragraph 5.3.
(c) the OBD requirements set out in paragraph 5.4. (OBD stage 2)
(d) the additional provisions set out in paragraph 5.5.
New type approvals. 12.2.1. As from 24 months after the official date of entry into force of Supplement 8 to the 09 series of amendments, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall grant ECE approvals only if the vehicle type to be approved meets the requirements of this Regulation as amended by Supplement 8 to the 09 series of amendments.
12.2.2. As from 24 months after the date of entry into force of the 10 series of amendments, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall grant approvals only if the vehicle type to be approved meets the requirements of this Regulation as amended by the 10 series of amendments.
12.2.3. Until 48 months after the date of entry into force of the 10 series of amendments to this Regulation, no Contracting Party applying this Regulation shall refuse national type approval of a vehicle type approved to the preceding series of amendments to this Regulation.
12.2.4. Until 48 months after the date of entry into force of the 10 series of amendments to this Regulation, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall continue to grant ECE approvals to Supplement 3 to the 10 series of amendments to this Regulation.
New type approvals. 12.2.1. Subject to the provisions of paragraph 12.4.1., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must, from the date of entry into force of the 04 series of amendments to this Regulation, grant an ECE approval to an engine only if that engine satisfies the relevant emission limits of Rows A, B1, B2 or C in the tables to paragraph 5.2.1. of this Regulation.
12.2.2. Subject to the provisions of paragraph 12.4.1., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must, from 1 October 2005, grant an ECE approval to an engine only if that engine satisfies the relevant emission limits of Rows B1, B2 or C in the tables to paragraph 5.2.1. of this Regulation.
12.2.3. Subject to the provisions of paragraph 12.4.1., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must, from 1 October 2008, grant an ECE approval to an engine only if that engine satisfies the relevant emission limits of Rows B2 or C in the tables to paragraph 5.2.1. of this Regulation.

12.1.2.3. During the 24 months' period that follows the date of entry into force of Supplement 8 to the 09 series of amendments, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall grant ECE approvals only if the vehicle type to be approved meets either:
