Common use of Obligation to Shed Load Clause in Contracts

Obligation to Shed Load. If directed to do so by the Reliability Coordinator, Balancing Authority, or Transmission Owner, Local Distribution Company shall shed load to maintain the reliability and integrity of the Transmission System; provided that the Reliability Coordinator or Transmission Owner shall make load-shedding determinations on an equitable, non-discriminatory basis with respect to all loads interconnected with the Transmission System whose interruption is necessary to permit safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Transmission System; provided, further, that if the Local Distribution Company does not respond to the load shed notice in a timely manner the Transmission Owner shall have the right to shed the required load at the Transmission level in order to maintain Transmission System stability and security.
