Paid Study Leave. 79.1 Where the General Manager approves an employee’s course of study, an ongoing employee or non-ongoing employee engaged for at least 12 months will be entitled to the following paid Study Leave:
(a) 3 hours per week for external/thesis students or part time students with no face to face requirements during working hours; or
(b) 5 hours per week for standard part time face to face study for approved study activities and up to 3 hours available for travel to and from study activities
79.2 All employees who undertake an approved course of study are entitled to paid Study Leave to travel to and from and attend compulsory examinations or assessments.
79.3 Paid Study Leave is only available during periods in which study activities for the employee’s course of study are being undertaken by the educational institution.
79.4 An employee who does not use all of the paid Study Leave specified in clause 79.1 may retain the unused leave as a credit to use in the following circumstances:
(a) to attend compulsory residential components of the course;
(b) to complete assignments or study for examinations; or
(c) to participate in informal study activities.
79.5 Access to accrued Study Leave credits under clause 79.4 must be approved by the General Manager, taking into account the benefit to the employee and operational requirements.
Paid Study Leave. 7.1 Further to the above provisions, MEDE shall continue to run on an annual basis the Paid Study Leave Schemes known as Scheme A and Scheme B. The Schemes shall be run as per agreement entered into between the Government of Malta and the MUT on 9th March 2015 or as mutually agreed by the same parties in the future.
Paid Study Leave. 6.1. Further to the above provisions, Church Schools employees may benefit from the Paid Study Leave Scheme known as Scheme A run by ▇▇▇▇, following endorsement by the Head of School, his/her delegate or the applicable line manager at the latter’s discretion.

Paid study leaves for purposes of professional development, such as a specialized training program, may be granted to a member of the bargaining unit provided such leave contributes toward the member’s effectiveness and value to his/her current position. Paid Study Leaves may also be granted for professional development opportunities that contribute to a management approved career goal with the College. Paid Study Leave is not appropriate when management is requiring the employee to attend training. The criteria and conditions for Paid Study Leaves are as follow:
A. Individual leaves shall not be for more than seventy-five (75) working days over the course of a fiscal year.
B. These leaves cannot be used for professional development opportunities of ten (10) working days or less.
C. The employee shall be paid their regular salary and benefits during the leave.
