Permanent Shift Vacancies. In the Sheriff's Department, when a permanent vacancy in 10 a classification occurs on a shift, the vacant shift will be posted. Employees within that 11 classification may sign up for the vacant shift, and the vacant shift will be assigned to the 12 employee within that classification on a seniority basis. The Sheriff, or the Sheriff's 13 representative, may make temporary deviations in permanent shift assignment, provided 14 that if the temporary assignments do not involve emergency situations, or are not mutually 15 agreed to between the Sheriff, or the Sheriff's representative, and the employee involved, 16 or the temporary assignments are made without fifteen (15) days prior notice, the 17 employee will be paid time and one-half for all hours worked outside the employee's 18 permanent shift hours.
