Principal Responsibilities. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager maintains the following primary responsibilities:  Facilitate nursing leadership to ensure safe care outcomes inclusive of effective human and clinical resource management.  Provide shift by shift co-ordination of care, supervision and delegation of nursing care within the specific area of practice to facilitate the delivery of all assessed patient nursing care requirements over a 24 hour nursing care cycle in line with the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards relating to: o Clinical Governance o Partnering with Consumers o Preventing and Controlling Healthcare-Associated Infections o Medication Safety o Comprehensive Care o Communicating for Safety o Blood Management o Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration  Fostering a safe and enjoyable work environment through positive work place behaviour and effective conflict resolution.  Service improvement to ensure the highest standards of nursing care through systematic, solution focused problem solving. PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES Consumer Experience  Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to patient/resident centred care  Acts as an appropriate patient advocate  Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team, students and visitors to facilitate participation and achievement of patient/resident goals  Comprehensive assessment and appropriate triage in accordance with the Australasian Triage Scale  Facilitates, coordinates, participates in multi-disciplinary team decision making to ensure patient/resident and carers have opportunity to participate in the development of goal-based care plans and discharge planning  Co-ordinates, safe, effective and timely discharge, inclusive of all relevant referrals, follow-up appointments and patient education  Timely response and management or escalation of patient/resident and family/guardian/carer concerns  Facilitates the active participation of patient/resident and/or family in bedside handover process  Provide access to information and education that is reflective of patient/resident’s health literacy levels and language preferences  Objective, accurate, timely and legible documentation of patient assessments, treatments and outcomes Quality and Improvement  Engages fully in meeting regulatory requirements inclusive of the National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards within daily practice  Translation of standards and improvement opportunities into evidence based practice  Participates in clinical audits and driving of subsequent quality improvement initiatives as required  Maintains responsibility for an allocated quality portfolio / project relevant to their clinical setting and knowledge expertise as required  Participate in and contribute to unit based improvement and relevant meetings  Provide clinical leadership and governance in bedside and multi-disciplinary patient information exchange and clinical handover through the application of ISBAR framework, organisational policy and privacy legislation  Accountability for coordinating and leading allocated performance discussions under Alpine Health’s Staff Support Conversations model  Consistent application of Infection Prevention and Control, as well as Work Health and Safety principles. Effective Leadership  Works with Nurse Manager to:  Establish and maintain safe and effective clinical practice through team based nursing response  Leadership response to critical incident management  escalates clinical deterioration and care needs appropriately and in accordance with organisational policy and scope of own professional practice  Accountable for appropriate delegation and supervision decisions, reflective of scope of practice limitations delegates may have, ensuring safe and quality patient/resident care in accordance with organisational policy and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Decision Making Framework  Effectively communicates clinical and professional expectations and holds staff accountable for meeting these expectations  Contributes to the review and renewal of clinically focused policy, procedure and work practice  Manages ethical issues in line with legislation and common law pertinent to the nursing profession  Supports bedside and xxxx based educational opportunities for the induction and professional development of all staff  Motivates team members in ways that are reflective of the vision, philosophy and values of Alpine Health  Fosters proactive workplace culture to actively manage or escalate workplace issues, disputes and/or conflicts though organisational processes  Maintains a safe and culturally appropriate environment for patients/residents, families, staff and communities  Recognises and embraces individual differences in others including gender, sexual preferences, age, disability and culture  Works to ensure organisational objectives are met  Conforms to Alpine Health’s ‘green footprint’ including appropriate waste segregation and energy management POSITION REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Meets at least the minimum education requirements Essential:  Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse without condition or restriction.  Up to date competency in advanced life support  Demonstrated ability to achieve Alpine Health’s Standing Order Learning Packages within 3 months of appointment. Desirable: Post graduate studies in nursing, clinical care or leadership Desirable Previous Experience  Nursing experience in rural communities  Clinical leadership and portfolio management Professional Expectations
