Professional Development and Training. 4.1 The purpose of professional development and training requirements for interpreters is to maintain the skill levels interpreters possess at the time they pass their interpreter certification examination, and to further enhance their skills and knowledge. Both the State and the Union encourage interpreters to complete training and continuing education activities.

Xxxxxxx State University recognizes that training and development programs improve individual and organizational performance and assists the University in achieving its overall institutional goals. The employees’ supervisor will provide basic orientation and explain the operations and processes required by the position. Certain positions at the University offer opportunities to acquire advanced skills, information, and experience that may qualify an employee for career progression. Professional development is part of all employees' performance expectations, supervisors should assess and plan for training programs determined to be mutually beneficial for employees and the University.

The employer may grant employees study leave to enable them to attend courses, seminars, and conferences; and to undertake projects which facilitate their professional development, and which are relevant to the employer. The maximum combined entitlement under this provision and Extra leave for Shift Workers is 5 days per annum.

The Board and the Support Staff Federation recognize the need for training and development of support staff employees in order that services are efficiently and effectively provided. The Board and the Union recognize the desirability of providing opportunities for employees to develop their skills and abilities for reasons of career advancement. In recognition of such principle, the Board shall endeavor to provide support staff employees with the reasonable orientation and training required to fulfill the responsibilities of their job.
Professional Development and Training. The Employer will make available twelve hours of work-related external training for each employee. In addition, the employer will be responsible for registration costs associated with the twelve hours of work- related external training. The employer will solicit input from each individual employee regarding the nature and level of work-related training being sought. Input will also be sought from the Union. Training must be work-related in order for it to be considered for approval by the Employer. All unused hours of training will expire annually on April 1. The hours available for voluntarily requested work-related training exclude mandatory training and will not carry over beyond April 1 of each year. Disputed issues regarding the application of this Article will be considered by the Labor Management Committee only after a deputy director has reviewed the issue and been unable to resolve the disputed issue.
Professional Development and Training. Effective staff development is necessary in providing continuing opportunities for employees. To that end the District may, from time to time, authorize employee development activities such as classroom observation or visitation, employee workshops and educational meetings. Release time with substitute provided will be made available upon prior approval of the superintendent to any employee who wishes to observe another classroom or attend a meeting, workshop, or conference. Where additional staff development opportunities are available, the administration may grant additional time at its discretion, to a staff member. The employee(s) will present a brief report at the next staff meeting.
