Purpose of Remediation Process. Remediation is a process used to address unsatisfactory performance, where that performance is reasonably likely to be corrected through intervention, professional development, or some other form of assistance. The intent of remediation is not punitive and remediation is not discipline as defined in Article 306.2-Discipline; however, academic employees have the obligation to carry out the terms of a remediation plan that is developed according to the provisions of 306.1. Remediation does not limit or replace a supervising administrator’s right to critique, coach, or evaluate an academic employee on an ad-hoc basis on performance and/or expected behavior. This section does not apply to decisions regarding renewal or rehire of probationers, adjunct instructors, extra-contractual employees, nor supplemental employees. See RCW 28B.50.
