Reclassification Advancement. In the event an employee is reclassified, such employee shall be placed on the step of the new classification which represents the next higher monthly rate of pay allowing for a minimum of a five (5%) increase. In no event shall upward reclassification result in a loss of pay for a classified employee. Reclassification accomplished by the Reclassification Committee shall become effective on the upcoming July 1 and shall be so designated by the Board of Trustees. All other forms of reclassification shall become effective upon designation by the Board of Trustees, but in no event later than the upcoming July 1. Compensation for the incumbent shall be calculated as follows: The incumbent shall be placed at a step on the new classification which represents a rate of pay closest to the rate of pay the incumbent was receiving prior to the reclassification, but which is at an amount that is higher than the incumbent’s pay prior to the reclassification. The District shall compare the rate of the new range and step (after reclassification) to the rate and range that would have been received by the employee on July 1 in the old classification. If the employee would have received more compensation by the step increase received in the old range than s/he is receiving in the new classification (as a result of the reclassification) the employee shall receive another step increase at the same time on July 1. If the amount of compensation from the range and step placement of the new classification is greater than the amount the employee would have received through the step increase in the old classification, the employee will not receive an additional step increase on July 1. The unit member will only receive the increased amount of compensation of the reclassification. See 7.3.
