Reduction or Discontinuation of a Particular Kind of Service. A district may lay off a corresponding percentage of probationary and tenured employees whenever a particular kind of service is to be reduced or discontinued not later that the beginning of the following school year. The employees providing the particular kinds of services that are being reduced or discontinued are the starting point for the layoff. The program viability and assessment process approved by each local Academic Senate should inform any reduction in force due to program reduction or discontinuance. For either of the two grounds for layoff described above, faculty layoff will occur according to one’s seniority and program/discipline in the following order: 1. Temporary and part-time unit members 2. First contract (probationary) unit members
