Common use of REFRESHMENT AND LUNCH BREAK Clause in Contracts

REFRESHMENT AND LUNCH BREAK. 16.01 An employee will be allowed to have one paid refreshment break of ten (10) minutes during each half of his working shift. 16.02 Regular day shift employees shall be allowed one-half (1/2) hour lunch break near the midpoint of the shift. It is understood that no employee be required to work more than five (5) consecutive hours without a lunch break. Where an employee is required to work through his lunch break, he will be paid at the applicable overtime rate for the lunch period and will be allowed one-half (1/2) hour later to eat his lunch. 16.03 Employees requested to work up to two (2) hours overtime shall be provided with a ten (10) minute paid break period prior to the start of overtime work. Where Trade Appendices or Local Union Schedules have conditions, which are better than the above paragraph, they shall remain in effect.
