Representative Release Time Clause Samples
The Representative Release Time clause defines the specific periods during which a designated representative is permitted to be absent from their regular duties to perform union or employee representation activities. Typically, this clause outlines the process for requesting release time, any limitations on the amount or frequency of such absences, and the types of activities covered, such as attending grievance meetings or negotiations. Its core practical function is to ensure that representatives can fulfill their roles without penalty, while also providing clear guidelines to minimize disruption to normal operations.
Representative Release Time. After prior coordination with their supervisors, PSE representatives will be released during their normal working hours for the following representational activities on the Employer’s property: Management scheduled investigatory interviews and pre-disciplinary meetings in accordance with Article 36;
1. Management scheduled new employee orientation in accordance with Article 3.9;
2. Labor/Management Committees meetings in accordance with Article 10.3;
3. Informal grievance resolution meetings, grievance meetings, mediation sessions, alternative dispute resolution meetings, and arbitration hearings in accordance with Article 37; and
4. Assisting or consulting with bargaining unit members or Employer officials in legitimate matters of contract administration. PSE members shall incur no loss of pay while engaging in any of the above activities.
Representative Release Time. Union Representatives who are processing or investigating grievances in accordance with the grievance procedure of this Agreement, or otherwise assisting or consulting with bargaining unit members or University officials in legitimate matters of contract administration, shall be released from work for reasonable periods of time without loss in pay to undertake such activities on the University’s property. Union Representatives are expected to request release time from their supervisors prior to taking the time. Time off for investigating and processing grievances shall be granted to Union Representatives by their supervisor following a request, but in consideration of job responsibilities. If permission for time off cannot be immediately granted, the supervisor shall arrange for time off at the earliest possible time thereafter.

BUD representatives who are processing or investigating grievances in accordance with the grievance procedure of this agreement, or otherwise assisting or consulting with bargaining unit members or Employer officials in legitimate matters of contract administration, shall be released from work for reasonable periods of time without loss in pay to undertake such activities on the Employer’s property. BUD representatives are expected to coordinate release time with their supervisors.
