Rock Excavation. A. If rock is encountered, notify Engineer and execute as follows.
B. Advise owners of adjacent buildings or structures in writing prior to setting up seismographs.
C. Obtain a seismic survey prior to rock excavation to determine maximum charges that can be used at different locations in the area of excavation without damaging adjacent properties.
D. Disintegrate rock and remove from excavation. Maximum dimension of all rock removed shall not exceed three feet. Dispose of rock on the project in areas as directed by Engineer.
E. No explosives are allowed on this job. Contractor will use non-destructive methods only.
Rock Excavation. Rock excavation shall comprise solid rock in the original bed, or in well defined ledges, the removal of which in the opinion of the Engineer requires drilling, blasting, or the use of jack hammers or bullpoints, and shall also include boulders or detached pieces of rock eight (8) cubic feet or more in content. Blasting operations shall be conducted in strict accordance with all blasting ordinances and regulations; and all blasting shall be done as directed by the Engineer. All exposed structures shall be carefully protected from the effects of blast and all blasts shall be covered with heavy timbers, mats, or suitable protection. The blasting shall be done only by experienced men. Very light charges must be used to prevent damages to adjacent structures. No blasting operation shall be started without the Engineer's approval of method and quantity of explosive to be used. Any damage done shall be promptly repaired by the Contractor at his own expense. Where there are no local ordinances governing blasting and the storage of explosives, all blasting supplies shall be stored in a manner approved by the Engineer and a watchman shall be stationed at all times at the place of storage. In no case shall caps or other explosives be kept at the place where dynamite or other explosives are stored.
Rock Excavation. A. Definition of Rock: Any material which, in the opinion of the Engineer, cannot be excavated with conventional excavating equipment, and must be removed by drilling and blasting.

Rock Excavation. In general, rock excavation shall consist of the loosening, removing, and disposing of all rock in original bed, in well defined ledges, or in boulder form. Boulders having a volume of eight (8) cubic feet or less shell not be classified as rock. Material that can be loosened, separated, or ripped by means of heavy duty power tools or excavating equipment shall not be classified as rock. Heavy blasting in rock which is to form a foundation will not be permitted. Blasting of rock for structures shall conform to the requirements of the specification section Explosives.
Rock Excavation. The Parties recognize the geological conditions of the Property are somewhat unknown and construction of the Improvements may necessitate additional and more costly methods of excavation under certain circumstances herein referred to as Rock Excavation. Rock Excavation shall mean any rock that cannot be removed with an 80,000 pound excavator after multiple good faith attempts as reasonably approved by the Town or Developer, necessitating such rock to be hammered, blasted or sawed in an attempt to construct the Improvements as designed including but not limited to keeping the width of the trench for deep utilities as close to four (4) feet wide as possible. In the event Contractor believes Rock Excavation is necessary on any portion of the project, the Contractor shall provide the Town and Developer notice of such change and obtain approval from Town for Rock Excavation related to Town Improvements or Developer for Rock Excavation related to Developer Improvements. The Town and Developer shall have the right, but not the obligation to inspect the proposed Rock Excavation and related attempts made prior to issuing approval of implementation of this provision. Such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.
Rock Excavation. Rock ditch in excess of that included in the base price will be compensated at $16.00 per lineal foot.
