In case concrete resulting from a mixture of aggregates approaching extreme limits of gradation is not workable, or when finished does not exhibit a proper surface due to an excess of particulars approximately 3mm to 12.5mm (1/8" to 1/2") size either a fine aggregate having a sufficiently greater percentage of fine materials or a coarse aggregate having a small percentage of fine materials shall be used if required by the Superintending Engineer.
Grading. The sodium chloride shall conform to the following particle size distribution specifications as determined by laboratory sieves: Passing a ½” sieve 100% Passing a 3/8” sieve 95% - 100% Passing a No. 4 sieve 20% - 80% Passing a No 8 sieve 10% - 50% Passing a No 30sieve 0% - 10%
Grading. The Prestige grade may contain pieces with mineral streaking and pin knots. All other grades allow: checks, mineral streaks, open knots, closed knots or filled knots with putty, cracks, holes, worm holes, open cracks, localized variable thickness, subsidence of character traits, etiolation or separation within character traits, color variation and other related characteristics as well as movement within natural characteristics and finish deterioration near natural characteristics.
Grading. Rock salt shall conform to the following particle size distribution specifications as determined by laboratory sieves: • Passing a ½” sieve (12.50mm) 100% • Passing a 3/8” sieve ( 9.50mm) 95% - 100% • Passing a No. 4 sieve ( 4.75mm) 20% - 80% • Passing a No 8 sieve ( 2.36mm) 10% - 50% • Passing a No 30 sieve ( 0.60mm) 0% - 10% Because of restrictions used to calibrate salt on Department xxxxxxx, the 1/2” gradation requirement is critical. The contractor will be required to re-screen the sodium chloride for continued oversize deliveries.
