SENIORITY NUMBERS Clause Samples

The Seniority Numbers clause establishes a system for assigning a unique rank or order to individuals, positions, or entities based on their length of service, priority, or another relevant metric. In practice, this clause might be used in employment agreements to determine the order of layoffs, promotions, or access to certain benefits, with lower numbers typically indicating higher seniority. By clearly defining how seniority is measured and recorded, the clause helps prevent disputes and ensures fair and transparent decision-making in situations where order of precedence is important.
SENIORITY NUMBERS. 8.11.1 Faculty members will receive a seniority number upon date of hire. If there are multiple hires on the same start date, faculty members shall receive their seniority number by lot through a single drawing within 30 days of the date service was first rendered by the faculty member. 8.11.2 If a new tenure-track contract faculty member was hired under article 8.10.3 or 8.10.4 (in accordance with Education Code section 87470), faculty member will be added to the bottom of the seniority list for that particular date of hire. If there is more than one faculty member meeting this criteria, each will receive his or her seniority number through a single drawing within 30 days of the date tenure-track contract service was first rendered.
