SICK LEAVE / Medical Certificates and Reporting. 10.1 In the first year of service with the Employer, a teacher shall be entitled to 20 teaching days of sick leave at full salary. During the second and subsequent years of service, annual sick leave with full salary will be granted for 90 calendar days. 10.2 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness shall continue to be entitled to the full number of sick leave days stipulated in 10.1. Notwithstanding the above, after 20 teaching days of continuous absence in a teacher’s first year of service, no further salary shall be paid. After 90 calendar days of continuous absence during a teacher’s second or subsequent years of service, no further salary shall be paid and the provisions of ASEBP shall take effect. A teacher who in his second or subsequent year of service returns to work after a continuous absence of 90 calendar days shall have his sick leave entitlement under clause 10.1 reinstated upon submission of a medical certificate of good health. 10.3 In the case of a teacher who has had previous service with The Horizon School Division and re-enters its employ within 26 months of leaving, and upon production of a medical certificate of good health, the sick leave accumulated, clause 10.1, during the period of employment with The Horizon School Division shall be reinstated to the credit of the teacher. 10.4 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of four or more consecutive teaching days may be required by the Employer to provide a medical certificate. 10.5 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of three consecutive teaching days or less may be required to present a signed statement giving reasons for such absence.

Notwithstanding this clause, if a teacher with more than one year of continuous employment under contract with the School Division resigns and is reappointed by the School Division within a two year period clause 10.3 shall apply to such teacher.
10.5 When a teacher is granted sabbatical leave, disability or other leave of absence by the School Division, the teacher shall retain the number of accumulated sick leave days to the date of leave commencement. However, the teacher shall not earn additional sick leave days during the period of leave.
10.6 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, treatment or because of accident, disability or sickness shall continue be required to be entitled provide the following documentation:
10.6.1 Where a teacher is required by the School Division to the full number of sick leave days stipulated in

10.4 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, treatment or because of accident, disability or sickness illness and where the teacher is required to pay a fee for a period of four or more consecutive teaching days may be required by the Employer to provide a such medical certificate, the School Division shall reimburse the teacher to a maximum of thirty-five ($35) dollars, upon receipt of proof of payment.
10.5 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of three consecutive teaching days or less may be required to present a signed statement giving reasons for such absence.

SICK LEAVE / Medical Certificates and Reporting. 10.1 Leave with pay will be granted to teachers for the need to obtain medical or dental treatment. The School Division may require a medical certificate.
10.2 Leave with pay necessitated by the illness of a teacher will be granted to the teacher in accordance with the Education Act and the following:
10.2.1 In the first year of service with the EmployerSchool Division, leave will be granted at the rate of two (2) days per month to a maximum of twenty days (20) per year of which at least twelve (12) days will be retained for the teacher’s personal illness or injury.
10.2.2 After the first year and subject to continuing uninterrupted service, each teacher shall be entitled to 20 teaching days of eligible for sick leave at full salary. During the second and subsequent years benefits to a maximum of service, annual sick leave with full salary will be granted for 90 ninety (90) calendar daysdays per year.
10.2 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness shall continue to be entitled to the full number of sick leave days stipulated in
10.1. Notwithstanding the above, after 20 teaching days of continuous absence in a teacher’s first year of service, no further salary shall be paid. 10.2.3 After 90 ninety (90) calendar days of continuous absence during a teacher’s second or subsequent years of servicedue to medical disability, no further salary shall be paid and the provisions of ASEBP shall take effect.
10.2.4 Where a teacher has suffered an illness and/or has been paid under the provisions of the ASEBP, upon their ability to return to duty as certified by a School Division approved practitioner at the School Division 's expense, they shall be entitled to an additional sick leave benefit in the current year in accordance with the following schedule to a maximum of:
2.1. A teacher who in his second or subsequent After the first year of service returns to work after a continuous absence of 90 with the School Division - ninety (90) calendar days shall have his days.
10.2.5 The accumulated sick leave entitlement under clause 10.1 reinstated upon submission of a medical certificate of good health.
10.3 In the case benefits of a teacher who has had previous service with The Horizon shall not be affected as a result of any leave of absence granted by the School Division and re-enters its employ within 26 months of leavingfor reasons other than those provided for by this clause, and upon production of a medical certificate of good health, the sick leave accumulated, clause 10.1, during the period of employment with The Horizon School Division shall be reinstated to the credit of the teacher.
10.4 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of four or more consecutive teaching days not exceeding one (1) year.
10.2.6 Before any payment is made under the foregoing regulations, the teacher may be required to provide:
10.2.6.1 A declaration, on a form provided by the Employer to provide a medical certificate.
10.5 A teacher who School Division, where the absence is absent from school duties to obtain medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of three consecutive teaching (3) operational days or less less.
10.2.6.2 A certificate signed by a qualified medical or dental practitioner where the absence is for a period of over three (3) operational days. The School Division may require medical certification for periods of three (3) days or less. In these instances the School Division will notify the teacher and the Coordinator of Teacher Welfare in writing if it requires a teacher to provide further medical certificates.
10.2.6.3 Prior to an employee returning to work after a period of thirty (30) or more continuous calendar days of medical absence, the teacher shall provide the School Division with a medical certificate signed by a School Division approved medical practitioner indicating their ability to return to normal working duties, cost to be borne by the School Division.
10.2.7 When a teacher leaves the employ of the School Division all sick leave shall be cancelled.
10.2.8 A teacher attending a medical or dental appointment outside the immediate area may be required to present provide proof of attendance, cost of such proof to be borne by the School Division.
10.2.9 It is understood that a signed statement giving reasons teacher who becomes eligible for such absencereceipt of disability benefits as provided in the ASEBP will not be entitled to receive cumulative sick pay benefits.

10.5 Before any payment is made under the foregoing regulation, the teacher may be required to provide:
10.5.1 A declaration, on a form to be provided by the School Division, where the absence is for a period of three (3) consecutive teaching days or less;
(a) A teacher who is absent from school duties for a period of more than 5 consecutive teaching days to obtain medical or dental treatment or because of accident, disability or sickness must provide the School Division with a medical leave certificate. The required certificate is included as Appendix 1 at the end of the collective agreement. The certificate must be provided as soon as reasonably possible. The cost of completing the medical leave certificate shall be borne by the School Division upon presentation of a receipt.
(b) A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of four or more consecutive teaching than 30 calendar days may must provide Palliser with a return to work certificate at least 7 calendar days prior to returning to work. The certificate is included as Appendix 2 at the end of the collective agreement. The cost of completing the return to work certificate shall be borne by the School Division upon presentation of a receipt.
10.5.3 A further medical certificate will be required by if the Employer to provide a condition of the employee changes substantially from the prognosis on the previous medical certificate.
10.5 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of three consecutive teaching days or less may be required to present a signed statement giving reasons for such absence.

SICK LEAVE / Medical Certificates and Reporting. 10.1 Sick leave shall be with salary and benefits and shall be for the purpose of the teacher obtaining medical or dental treatment or because of accident, disability or sickness.
10.1.1 All teachers under contract shall, in their first school year of employment, have available twenty (20) days of sick leave, prorated if the contract is for less than a full school year. Such leave shall be noncumulative.
10.1.2 In the first year second successive and subsequent consecutive school years of service with employment, all teachers under contract shall have available ninety (90) calendar days of sick leave. Such leave shall be noncumulative.
10.1.3 In the Employersecond successive and subsequent consecutive school years of employment, a teacher who is absent on sick leave shall, upon return to work, have the sick leave entitlement reinstated to ninety (90) calendar days. However, in instances where the teacher has been continuously absent for a period of thirty (30) or more calendar days, reinstatement of the sick leave entitlement may be made contingent upon the teacher providing a medical certificate signed by a physician, prior to the date of return, verifying that the teacher is medically fit to return to work. In addition, the ninety (90) calendar days shall not be entitled to 20 reinstated until the teacher has been actively at work for ten (10) consecutive teaching days unless the absence is a result of sick leave at full salary. During the second and subsequent years of service, annual sick leave with full salary will be granted for 90 calendar daysa new medical condition supported by medical evidence.
10.2 A teacher who is absent from school duties duty to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability disability, or sickness for a period of more than three (3) consecutive days, shall continue be required to present a medical certificate to the superintendent or designate as follows:
10.2.1 Teachers in their first year of employment shall be required to present a medical certificate within fourteen (14) calendar days of the start of the absence.
10.2.2 Teachers in their second and subsequent consecutive years of employment shall be required to present a medical certificate within twenty (20) calendar days of the start of the absence.
10.3 A teacher who is absent shall be required to record, in the attendance management system, the reason for every absence upon submission of absence request.
10.4 The School Division shall be entitled to require a teacher to submit to a medical examination by a doctor named by it, at the full number School Division's expense.
10.5 For teachers enrolled in ASEBP Plan D (EDB 1), after ninety (90) continuous calendar days of illness, sick leave days stipulated in
10.1. Notwithstanding the above, after 20 teaching days of continuous absence in a teacher’s first year of service, benefits shall be suspended and no further salary shall be paid. After 90 calendar days of continuous absence during .
10.6 In the event that,
a) a teacher’s second or subsequent years of service, no further salary shall be paid and the provisions of ASEBP shall take effect. A teacher who in his second or subsequent year of service returns to work after a continuous absence of 90 calendar days shall have his has insufficient sick leave entitlement under clause 10.1 reinstated upon submission of a medical certificate of good health.to provide full salary during the qualifying period for ASEBP extended disability benefits and
10.3 In b) the case of a teacher who has had previous service with The Horizon is accepted by the insurance carrier as an EDB claimant, the School Division and re-enters its employ within 26 months shall pay the salary of leaving, and upon production of a medical certificate of good health, the sick leave accumulated, clause 10.1, during teacher for the period of employment with The Horizon School Division shall be reinstated insufficient sick leave to a maximum of ninety (90) calendar days once the credit of the teacher.
10.4 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of four or more consecutive teaching days may be required accepted by the Employer to provide a medical certificateinsurance carrier as an EDB claimant and the teacher receives the first EDB payment.
10.5 A teacher who is absent from school duties to obtain medical or dental treatment, or because of accident, disability or sickness for a period of three consecutive teaching days or less may be required to present a signed statement giving reasons for such absence.
