Common use of STEP 1 – The Informal Stage Clause in Contracts

STEP 1 – The Informal Stage. If the employee feels he/she has a grievance, he/she shall take up the matter with the immediate supervisor (the undersheriff) within ten (10) days after the employee is aware of the event giving rise to the grievance. The immediate supervisor shall make every attempt to reach an acceptable solution to the grievance within ten (10) business days (Monday-Friday excluding holidays listed in Article 12) after it has been submitted. If the grievance has not been resolved within ten (10) business days (Monday-Friday excluding holidays listed in Article 12), the immediate supervisor shall notify the employee and the ASSOCIATION of that fact in writing and the grievance shall proceed to the committee stage.
