The TEACHER PLANNING clause outlines the expectations and requirements for teachers to allocate time and effort toward preparing lessons, materials, and instructional strategies. Typically, this clause specifies the amount of planning time provided, whether during the school day or outside regular hours, and may detail resources or support available to teachers for effective planning. Its core function is to ensure that teachers have adequate opportunity to prepare high-quality instruction, thereby supporting effective teaching and learning while clarifying workload expectations.

Although the substitute shall assume the regular duties of the teacher, any teacher who uses leave shall assume responsibility for instructional planning that will provide students with a continuing educational program. A teacher's repeated failure to leave adequate plans for the class shall be reflected in the teacher's formal rating by the principal.

Teacher Planning. Time Each teacher shall be granted a minimum of one block of thirty (30) minutes of unassigned time for planning during the student day. A proration system shall be utilized by the building principal on those 1/2 days designated by the Board for state-approved in-service training. When a teacher loses his/her planning time for a qualified reason, the time shall be rescheduled by the principal or paid at the rate of $30 per thirty (30) minutes. Teachers with extra planning time may be used for other supervisory duties as well as internal subbing. The District administrators shall work in conjunction with the Information Specialists and building principals in an attempt to provide additional planning time for classroom teachers at the primary and intermediate buildings. If additional planning time can be provided, a schedule will be implemented. The Union recognizes that there will be occasions when this additional planning time will be canceled due to conflicts. Furthermore, the Union recognizes if the District implements personnel changes related to financial conditions and the information specialist time is limited, planning time may not be provided.
