Teaching and Learning Environment. 5.1.1. The BOARD recognizes that TEACHERS and students deserve school environments that are safe, supportive and conducive to teaching and learning. The BOARD and TEACHERS recognize that creating a supportive school climate requires close attention to the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students. Both parties recognize the importance of protecting the rights of students to an education. Nothing in this article shall be construed to support arbitrary, capricious, or willful denial of the rights of any student to educational opportunities.

Teaching and Learning Environment. A note about time-off for medical appointments Students are asked to arrange for medical appointments outside teaching hours wherever possible. However, the university acknowledges that they may be limited in choice of appointments and students are asked to give as much notice as possible for missed teaching hours resulting from medical appointments so that arrangements can be made to supply lecture materials. Where courses have a minimum attendance criteria (e.g. as part of a professional accreditation), the school should allow students the opportunity to catch up hours at another time wherever possible.
