University Criteria for Promotion. The decision to award promotion to a faculty member shall be a result of his/her meritorious performance and shall be consistent with the University’s promotion criteria and the department’s interpretations/clarifications of those criteria. These judgments of academic performance are complex. They cannot easily be reduced to a quantitative formula, nor can the considerations that must be applied in each individual case be completely described in general terms.
