WORKING AND SAFETY CONDITIONS. 6.1 The Company agrees to provide for its employees a high standard of working conditions and to strive constantly to prevent accidents and health hazards by every reasonable means. 6.2 The Union will co-operate with the Company to maintain good working conditions and will do its utmost to ensure that its members observe all safety rules. 6.3 Tools and gloves will be supplied to employees on an exchange basis on the recommendation of their supervisor. 6.4 Full-time non-office employees will be issued protective clothing as outlined in Schedule 1 and will be replaced on the basis of need. a) Employees will be required to wear the uniforms supplied during normal working hours. Employees will respect clothing issue which may be identified as Company issue and it is understood and agreed such clothing will not be worn in a manner which will discredit the employer nor worn during non-working hours, other than traveling to and from work or while on standby. b) An employee, who through neglect or negligence, destroys or loses any of the tools or clothing issued to him by the Company shall be held responsible for such damage or loss. c) Articles of clothing or tools which have become worn out or irreparably damaged will be replaced, without charge, with new articles upon presentation or surrender of the worn out or damaged items. d) Items lost or stolen, and not as a result of employees negligence or neglect, will be replaced without charge to the employee. e) The Company will contribute a maximum of $680.00 over the four-year agreement toward the replacement of approved safety footwear for full-time non- office employees and a maximum of $240.00 over the four-year agreement for full time office employees (where required) upon presentation of a properly dated receipt evidencing the purchase of new safety footwear for all classifications. Expenses will be processed a maximum of twice per year for each employee. 6.5 The Company will allow all employees to purchase goods for personal use held in its warehouses at the cost the Company plus 10 percent for handling charge. 6.6 During normal working hours no time will be lost on account of adverse weather conditions and alternative work will be assigned. 6.7 An employee reporting to work impaired or any employee found drinking intoxicating beverages or using illegal substance on the job may be disciplined, but such discipline including the extent of the penalty may be subject to grievance and arbitration procedure. 6.8 Criminal checks are required on an annual basis for employees in job classifications where they are exposed to children. Costs will be paid by the Company. Includes: Zookeeper, Groundskeeper, and Park & Zoo Labourer classifications. Vulnerable sector check is required every 5 years.

6.6 The Company will furnish daily transportation for employees from shop to job and job to shop, where the site of the employee’s work is more than fifteen (15) minutes average walking time from the nearest regular civic bus stop. In adverse weather, outside staff will be picked up at the job and returned to the shop where alternative work may be assigned.
6.7 During normal working hours no time will be lost on account of adverse weather conditions and alternative work will be assigned.

However, employees who do not pass probation will reimburse the company for the cost of the safety footwear. Proration of footwear allowance is based on service during contract. On termination or retirement, if an employee has been reimbursed beyond the prorated allowance, the difference will be held back from their final pay. For employees who are on either an unpaid leave of absence, or a long term disability, for any twelve month period, the employee will be entitled to safety footwear allowance on a pro-rated basis during their absences.

Includes: ZookeeperAll IT employees that work on Peterborough Police Services (PPS) resources require a satisfactory police check to be completed prior to services being provided. Upon the employee's consent (for current employees), Groundskeeper, police checks will be completed by PPS and Park & Zoo Labourer classificationsonly a 'pass or fail" status will be reported to PUG management and the employee. Vulnerable sector A failed police check is required every 5 yearswould not result in current employee termination.
