At the last several ACC meetings there have been discussions regarding alternatives to the acclimation ponds originally implemented. WDFW is supportive of moving in a different direction, but wants to make sure that the new path chosen is evaluated to determine the effectiveness of alternatives implements. It is also important that the spring chinook acclimation benefits juvenile productivity and geographic distribution of returning adults. To that end WDFW has recommendations on how best to proceed with both distribution of returning adults and acclimation of juvenile hatchery verses wild distinctions are currently being made. A total of 1,110 adults were transported and release at head of Swift Reservoir during the 2017 run year. A number of these fish were observed spawning throughout the upper basin and as far upstream as Lower Falls this fall. These were the first spring Chinook adults to be released in the upper basin since 2013, when about 600 adults were released above Swift Reservoir. Xxxxxx Xxxx Collection Facility and General Operations. During the month of DecemberJanuary, a total of 2,612 716 fish were captured at the Xxxxxx Adult Fish Collection Facility. The vast majority of these fish were hatchery winter steelhead (2,275 665 8793%). The Xxxxxx Dam adult fish trap ran continuously intermittently through the month of DecemberJanuary due to an unscheduled outage to repair the facilities’ automatic xxxxxxx and hoist cabling system. Damage to the fish crowding mechanism was the result of a large amount of aquatic macrophytes that entered the fish ladder through the Xxxxxx Hatchery return-water supply pipe that discharges into the upper portion of the Xxxxxx xxxx ladder. The inundation of the biomaterial blocked the fish xxxxxxx and caused damage to cabling system and hoist. PacifiCorp is working with Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx personnel to prevent this for happening in the future. The fish ladder was dewatered on January 11, 2018 for inspection and repairs. The trap was put back in service January 24, 2018. River flow varied below Xxxxxx Dam ranging between 2,210 9,050 and 12,000 cfs throughout the month. Xxxxxx Xxxx Collection Facility and General Operations. (Attachment A) During the month of DecemberJanuary, a total of 2,612 258 fish were captured at the Xxxxxx Adult Fish Collection Facility. The vast majority of these fish were hatchery winter steelhead (2,275 – 87227 - 88%)) while the few remaining comprised of mostly of late-run coho and fall Chinook. All hatchery fish were given to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. One (1) coastal cutthroat greater than 13-inches was captured this month. The Xxxxxx Dam adult fish trap ran continuously through the month of DecemberJanuary except during periods of freezing weather conditions when operation of the automatic fish lift and elevator system was suspended due to the risk of ice build-up. During these periods the Auxiliary Water Supply (AWS) system (which can boost attraction flow up to 400 cfs), and ladder flow remained on. River flow varied below Xxxxxx Dam ranging fluctuated between 2,210 2,140 and 12,000 8,170 cfs throughout the monthmonth of January. The new xxxx was installed November 2016. It is scheduled to be evaluated using winter steelhead as part of the 2017 Adult Trap Efficiency (ATE) Evaluation. Equipment installation for the ATE study is currently underway. The study is scheduled to begin February 15th, 2017.
