ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is an agreement between ASEAN leaders to transform ASEAN into a stable, prosperous, competitive, and fair region in terms of economy. Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has potential in tourism sector and the creative industries that have contributed to the national GDP. Facing AEC, DIY has to overcome some challenges namely: low-educated employees; quite high regional development imbalances; problems in industrial estate and airports infrastructure development caused by land acquisition; climate change which disturbs land productivity and sustainability of agriculture; the fact of being not a large industrial base; and DIY communities who are relatively creative. Besides batik, pottery industry in Kasongan Bantul is also a mainstay of the DIY creative economy industries.
