Contract Type FiledMay 7th, 2013Indigenous Nigerian theatre developed from masquerade performances, as evidenced in African theatre history. I believed ritual is a very significant factor in masquerade theatre. Ritual in itself is, in most cases, associated with religious belief and performance. Early Nigerian theatre and indeed drama is not guided by the Aristotelian model as most others are. This is because “drama is far more complex and universal a phenomenon than Aristotle could ever have construed.”52 Within the traditionalist African context, it becomes difficult to distinguish drama from ritual because if the context of the performance is to be taken into cognizance “a ritual becomes entertainment once it is outside its original context or when the belief that sustains it has lost its potency.”53 Drama evolved from ritual and, in some cases, it is also a part of the ritual enactment as there are situations where dramatic traditions have developed alongside rituals without any separation from their origins.

Contract Type FiledMay 7th, 2020In modern philosophy of mind, we find a tendency to gain new inspiration from Aristotle’s psychology, aiming to activate new interest in ancient texts as well as to enlighten contemporary research. Examples are the debate about Aristotle and functionalism (Hilary Putnam (1973), Martha Nussbaum (1978), Howard Robinson (1978), (1983), Christopher Shields (1988), (1990), M. F. Burnyeat (1992), Stephen Everson (1997), T. H. Irwin (1991), etc.); intentionality in Aristotle (Sorabji (1995), (2001), Burnyeat (1992), Caston (1998), Corcilius & Gregoric (2013), Shields (1994), etc.); Aristotle and emergentism (Caston (1997)). Connecting Aristotle with contemporary philosophy of mind is not only a way to refresh Aristotle’s thoughts and revive his insightful theories, but also provides opportunities to introduce ancient perspectives into modern discussions. Except for the comprehensive investigation about intentionality in Aristotle by Victor Caston and Richard Sorabji, in other scholars the top

IRAQN/A • December 27th, 2011
Contract Type FiledDecember 27th, 2011Iraq, with a population of approximately 29 million, is a republic with a freely elected government led by Prime Minister Nouri Kamal al-Maliki. On December 22, the new government was sworn in after the parliament, the Council of Representatives (COR), approved a power-sharing agreement reached by all of the country's major political blocs on November 11, approximately nine months after the March 7 elections. Despite the controversy surrounding the January 15 decision by Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to ban approximately 500 candidates for alleged ties to the banned Ba'ath Party, and violence before and on election day, the COR elections met internationally recognized standards for free and fair elections, and the results of these legislative elections reflected the general will of the voters.
