Contract Type FiledNovember 25th, 2016The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) is a land claims agreement within the meaning of Section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982. Because Inuit are an integral part of the ecological systems within which they live, their relationship to the environment and to the wildlife with which they share their Arctic home is profound. In negotiating the NLCA, Inuit put the protection and management of the land and marine environment above all else. Approximately seventy percent of the land claim is concerned with environmental protection, conservation and the wise management of the land and marine environment.
