SUBJECT: AGREEMENT - SHARED MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT FOR THE FIRESTONE BOULEVARD BRIDGE OVER THE SAN GABRIEL RIVERShared Maintenance Agreement • December 1st, 2016
Contract Type FiledDecember 1st, 2016The replacement of the Firestone Boulevard Bridge over the San Gabriel River was completed earlier this year. The bridge, constructed in 1934 and lying equally within the cities of Norwalk and Downey, had been determined to be structurally deficient by Los Angeles County bridge engineers. Based on the findings, and the shared ownership, the cities of Norwalk and Downey agreed on the mutual benefit of a cooperative project to replace the bridge with Norwalk being the lead agency. The project replaced the existing six-lane concrete bridge with a six-lane concrete bridge in the same location, but with wider sidewalks, a center median, and shoulders to comply with current highway standards. Safety lighting as well as decorative lighting was also provided on the new bridge.
