Whether a particular procedural provision applies depends on the status of the faculty member and the particular category of contract or situation. In the event of a conflict between the faculty member’s individual contract and the Handbook provisions in Chapter III parts A and B, the individual contract terms shall prevail in determining the respective rights and responsibilities of the faculty member and the College. If the College modifies the provisions of Chapter III parts A and B, the effect of such changes shall be prospective only, which means, for example, that the provisions applicable to a tenure-track faculty member will not change for that faculty member while he or she is on tenure track. Likewise, the provisions applicable to a tenured faculty member will not change while he or she is in tenure status.
