The existing boarding floats at Bernert Landing were installed in early 2005, and were of an experimental design utilizing untreated lumber, composite lumber and metal as required by the permitting agencies. Unfortunately, the untreated lumber did not perform as well as hoped, and has deteriorated to a point where the floats are beginning to sink under their own weight. When you add the additional weight of people preparing to board boats, the sinking is expedited to a point that boarding can become hazardous.
