Contract Type FiledMarch 5th, 2016Students from Plumas Unified School District are helping Plumas NF botanists with the propagation of rare and en- demic plants. The Greenville High School Greenhouse class planted over four-hundred seeds of the rare Webber’s milkvetch (Astragalus webberii) in a greenhouse environment. This plant is only found on the Plumas NF. Phase one of the Rich Fire Restoration Astragalus Webberi Habitat Enhancement Project was to grow, monitor, and plant from seed. During the summer, the rare plants were hand-watered, labeled, and monitored. In October, students planted the seedlings in the Rich Fire Restoration Project Area under the direction of forest botanists. Timing of the planting was perfect when seasonal rains brought much needed precipitation to the drought-ridden landscape.
