AMENDED INVESTMENT ADVISORY AND SERVICE AGREEMENT THIS AGREEMENT, dated and effective as of the 1st day of March, 2000, is made and entered into by and between THE AMERICAN FUNDS INCOME SERIES, a Massachusetts business trust, (hereinafter called the "Trust"), and CAPITAL RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT COMPANY, a Delaware corporation, (hereinafter called the "Adviser"). The parties agree as follows: 1. The Trust is authorized to issue shares in separate series, with each such series representing interests in a separate portfolio of securities and other assets, and intends initially to offer shares of a single series designated U.S. Government Securities Fund (the "Fund" or the "Government Fund").
