In accordance with Article IV, paragraph 2, of the Agreement, the Action Plan, as appended in Annex 3 to the Agreement, shall be reviewed at each ordinary session of the Meeting of the Parties. In addition, Parties have the right to propose amendments to the Agreement text or any Annex to the Agreement.

The Register of International Projects was established by the 1st Meeting of Parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds. The aim of the Register is to provide a list and contact details of all international cooperation projects (including international legislation, Agreements etc) which are being undertaken within the Agreement Area in furtherance of the objectives of the AEWA. The criteria for the inclusion of projects on the Register are as follows:

This report represents a brief overview of the contribution of the AEWA Secretariat to the implementation of the Agreement, highlighting some main activities since the last meeting of the CMS StC in December 2009.

The Technical Committee (hereinafter referred to as Committee), established in accordance with Article VII of the Agreement provides scientific and technical advice and information, to the Meeting of the Parties and, through the Agreement Secretariat, to the Parties; it makes recommendations to the Meetings of the Parties concerning the Action Plan, implementation of the Agreement and further research to be carried out; it prepares for each ordinary session of the Meeting of the Parties a report on its activities, which shall be submitted to the Agreement secretariat not less than one hundred and twenty days before the session of the Meeting of the Parties; it carries out any other tasks referred to it by the Meeting of the Parties. The Technical Committee works closely with the Standing Committee to ensure consistency across the Agreement’s work.

The AEWA 15th Anniversary Symposium will take place at the Bel Air Hotel in The Hague, the Netherlands. The hotel is located in the north-western part of The Hague, on the edge of the city centre (please see the attached maps). The meeting rooms are located on the ground and first floors and will be signposted.

AEWA was concluded in 1995 and entered into force in 1999. So far 62 of the 118 Range States (+ the EU) to AEWA have ratified the Agreement and more are expected to do so in the months to come.

As part of a United Nations–wide initiative (as per Resolution A/RES/63/262 of the UN General Assembly in 2008), the Secretariats of CMS (and its MOUs), AEWA, ASCOBANS and EUROBATS will be implementing a new enterprise resource planning system named ‘Umoja’ with effect from 1 June 2015. Umoja will integrate the management of all administrative processes across the UN, including finance/accounting, procurement, human resources, supply chain management, central support services and other core functions. The objective is to modernize the United Nations’ technology, tools and processes.

Participants are advised to ensure that they are appropriately insured (i.e. for health purposes, personal belongings, etc.) during their travel and stay in Germany.

The Norwegian Environment Agency (www.environmentagency.no) wishes to welcome all participants to the 9th Meeting of the AEWA Standing Committee (StC9) at its new office building on the sea front of Trondheim. The meeting room will be next to the cafeteria on the ground floor. The Secretariat will be accommodated next door to the meeting room itself. Please note that the name of the Directorate changed its name as of 1st of July to the ‘Norwegian Environment Agency’ ‐ Miljødirektoratet.
