Hawaii 2060Cleveland-Liliuokalani Agreements • September 17th, 2020
The 1893 Cleveland-Liliuokalani Agreements were the results of negotiations between President Cleveland and Queen Liliuokalani, following the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom government. The Cleveland-Liliuokalani Executive Agreements were a significant diplomacy in Hawaiian History, as it obligates the United States to restore the Hawaiian Kingdom government as it was prior to the overthrow. Because left unrecognized and unfulfilled by the United States government, it contributes to the protection and sustained existence of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Due to the continuing effects of the United States noncompliance of Cleveland-Liliuokalani Executive Agreements on society, the agreements must be acknowledged and the issue of Hawaiian sovereignty must be resolved in the next fifty years in order for Hawaii to be the best place to thrive.
