With climate change, the global community faces particular challenges. As human activities contribute towards global warming, this impacts ecosystems and correspondingly, our everyday lives. For this reason, 195 countries agreed in Paris in 2015 on the goal of limiting global warming to well below two degrees. This climate agreement is now being implemented through political frameworks and targets at national level. Various scientific institutions have developed methods and recommendations for action to translate this ambitious goal into practice.

We urge the federal government and state governments to enact policies and programs to meet or beat the target of reducing global warming pollution levels to 7 percent below 1990 levels by 2012, including efforts to: reduce the United States’ dependence on fossil fuels and accelerate the development of clean, economical energy resources and fuel‐efficient technologies such as conservation, methane recovery for energy generation, waste to energy, wind and solar energy, fuel cells, efficient motor vehicles, and biofuels;

Climate disruption is an urgent threat to the environmental and economic health of our communities. in 2005, the City of Alexandria acknowledged this threat by signing onto the US Conference of Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement. This agreement establishes a framework for local governments to become active par- ticipants in the fight against global warming by implementing policies and pro- grams to curb the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. But the City staff cannot do it alone: We need YOUR HELP to make Alexandria the van- guard in Climate Protection.
