Contract Type FiledJanuary 19th, 2022The Sexual Health Education Accountability Act of 2007 (Health and Safety Code, Sections 151000 – 151003) requires sexual health education programs (programs) that are funded or administered, directly or indirectly, by the State, to be comprehensive and not abstinence- only. Specifically, these statutes require programs to provide information that is medically accurate, current, and objective, in a manner that is age, culturally, and linguistically appropriate for targeted audiences. Programs cannot promote or teach religious doctrine, nor promote or reflect bias (as defined in Section 422.56 of the Penal Code), and may be required to explain the effectiveness of one or more drugs and/or devices approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration for preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
