At the request of DDC LLC, Scientific Consultant Services, Inc. (SCS) has prepared this archaeological monitoring plan (AMP) for the projected Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Pu‘unani Homesteads development. It is projected to take place over about 51 acres of vacant land between Old Waikapu Road and Honoapi‘ilani Highway in Waikapū, Waikapū Ahupuaʻa, Wailuku (Pūʻali Komohana) District, Maui Island, Hawaii [TMK: (2) 3-5-002:002 por. and 3-5- 001:064 por.]. The property is owned by the State of Hawai‘i, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL), and is located on the isthmus of Maui between the town of Wailuku to the north and Māʻalaea Bay to the south. The project area is shown on a portion of the 2017 U.S. Geological Survey map, a TMK map, and a 2020 Google aerial photograph (Figures 1 through 3).
