* This consolidated version does not replace the only authentic text, namely the text of the European agreement concerning the work of crews of vehicles engaged in international road transport (AETR), of 1 July 1970, deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations. It has for unique objective to facilitate the understanding and reading of the AETR and comprises the original Agreement (E/ECE/811; E/ECE/TRANS/564), the amendments 1-4 (E/ECE/811; E/ECE/TRANS/564/Amend. 1-4) which entered into force respectively on 3 August 1983, 24 April 1992, 28 February 1995 and 27 February 2004, the fifth amendment (ECE/TRANS/SC.1/375/Add.1) which entered into force on 16 June 2006, as well as the sixth and most recent amendment ((ECE/TRANS/SC.1/386/Add.1) entered into force on 20 September 2010.

The present Agreement shall be open until 30 June 1962 for signature, and thereafter for accession, by countries members of the Economic Commission for Europe and countries admitted to the Commission in a consultative capacity under paragraph 8 of the Commission's terms of reference. 2. The Agreement shall be ratified. 3. The instruments of ratification or accession shall be deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the manner provided for in paragraphs 4 and 5 of this article. 4. On the expiry of two years after 30 June 1962, or at an earlier date if at least three of the countries referred to in paragraph 1 of this article so request, the Secretary-General of the United Nations shall invite the governments of the countries referred to in paragraph 1 to send representatives to a meeting to consider whether it is possible and expedient to bring the Agreement into force, having regard to whether or not the

On 8 October 2019, following its communication pursuant to article 21 (2) (b)1, the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands notified the Secretary-General that, in accordance with article 21 (5) (b) of the AETR, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, for the European part of the Netherlands, had met the necessary constitutional requirements for acceptance of the proposed amendment to article 14 of the AETR transmitted by C.N.561.2018.TREATIES-XI.B.21 of 16 November 2018.

This document, submitted by the Government of Slovakia, proposes to amend Articles 14 and 22 while deleting Article 22bis. According to the proposal, all future amendments to Appendices 1, 1B, (newly proposed) 1C and 2 are to be done through (modified) procedures listed in Article 22. The proposal also adjusts all relevant parts of the AETR Agreement to accommodate references to EU Regulation 165/2014 and 2016/799.
