Chad covers 1,284,000 sq. kilometers and has 11,175,915 inhabitants including 49.3% men and 50.7% women—Ref. GCPH 2, 2019. The majority of the population (78%) accounts for rural populations mainly living from agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing, petty trade and handicrafts. This part of the population is the poorest and most exposed to food insecurity. Although women and girls represent half of the Chadian population, they face inequalities in accessing health care, education, and the labor market.
