Although there are several definitions of this phenomenon, the core of the problem is the lack of free and full consent by the victim.2 In this sense, Gill and Anitha’s definition insightfully reflects on this situation by considering as forced marriage any ‘[…] marriage in which one or both spouses do not (...) consent to the marriage and duress is involved. Duress can include physical, psychological, financial, sexual and emotional pressure’.3
