The 2013/14 GMS contract, effective from 1 April this year, has been introduced against a background of considerable controversy. In England the Health and Social Care Act is also being implemented, with its emphasis on local commissioning, which may include diabetes services. Here, a brief overview is provided of the changes likely to have most effect on diabetes and obesity care.
