Certain critical incidents in or surrounding the state of Arkansas, either regionally or statewide, may generate large numbers of patients requiring immediate emergency medical care including patients with very specialized medical requirements (hazmat injuries, trauma surgery, etc.) that exceed the resources of an individual hospital. Such critical incidents may include, but are not limited to, catastrophic accidents, pandemics, terrorist attacks or severe natural disasters such as earthquake or tornado. For purposes of this Hospital Mutual Aid Agreement, a medical disaster is defined as a critical incident that exceeds the effective response capability of an individual hospital.
