Psychotherapy/counseling is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the personalities of the counselor and the client, and the particular problems you are experiencing. There are many different methods your counselor may use to deal with the problems that you wish to address. Psychotherapy/counseling is not like a medical doctor visit. Instead, it calls for a very active effort on your part. The purpose for treatment will be mostly defined by you (your counselor will be happy to assist you with this as needed). In order for therapy to be most successful, you will have to work on things that are discussed both during session and at home.
