Provisions regarding leave of absences are found in the certified staff agreement and the Handbook for Classified Personnel. Days without pay cannot be taken by a certified or classified member without the approval of the superintendent or his designee. The days granted may not exceed five days (or 10 days when students are not in session) other than extended illness where the employee has exhausted his/her available sick days. Any days beyond five (or 10 days when students are not in session) would need the approval of the Board of School Trustees.

This procedure sets out the general conditions applicable to requests for full or partial leaves of absence without pay, which are submitted to OC for approval.This procedure applies to all unpaid leaves with the exception of maternity/parental leave. Maternity/Parental leave is covered under procedure 10.20.
