From the TRIPS Agreement to the Public Health DeclarationMaster's Thesis • January 13th, 2016
Contract Type FiledJanuary 13th, 2016This paper introduces and conducts a comparative analysis of the formation of the above documents and their major contents, pointing out that the multitude of restrictions imposed by Articles 31 of the TRIPS Agreement has, in essence, expanded the protection of patent rights and undermined the interest of the public health of developing member states. The release of the Doha Declaration and the Resolution is breakthrough of Article 31 of the TRIPS Agreement, reflecting the embrace of humanistic values and ideals. In particular, the Resolution provides an interest coordinating mechanism under the “differentiated protection” model for member states with different economic development levels, making it a major victory for developing member states in the WTO system. The two have obvious positive significance, yet there are limitations; as such, developing member states still need to seek measures other than the compulsory patent licensing in order to solve the public health issue of their

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSMaster's Thesis • June 16th, 2014

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the people who have been instrumental in the successful completion of this thesis. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to my supervisors, Marjo van Koppen and Heidi Klockmann for their useful comments, remarks and their overall engagement in the writing of this thesis. Without their guidance and persistent help, this thesis would not have been possible. I really enjoyed working with you and giving my contribution to the Uniformity of Linguistic Variation project. Furthermore, I would like to thank my colleague and flatmate, but above all my friend, Anton Nguyen for introducing me to the project, as well as for the support along the way. I am also deeply grateful to my informants, who have (un)willingly shared their precious time and completed my (long and exhausting) surv
Agreement ProtocolsMaster's Thesis • June 30th, 2006
Contract Type FiledJune 30th, 2006Certificateless public key cryptography (CL-PKC) was proposed to overcome the weak- nesses of the public key infrastructure (PKI) and identity-based cryptography (ID-PKC). In PKI, certificates are used to provide the authenticity of public keys. However, a PKI faces many challenges in practice, such as the scalability of the infrastructure and certifi- cate management (distribution, revocation, storage, and validation costs). ID-PKC does not use certificates, but employs a key generation center (KGC) that will know every user’s private key. Hence, the KGC will also be able to trace each user transaction and may cause loss of privacy if it’s not trusted. In CL-PKC, on the other hand, the KGC does not have this information. Thus, CL-PKC is often considered a cross between PKI and ID-PKC.

UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDESMaster's Thesis • January 25th, 2018
Contract Type FiledJanuary 25th, 2018This association consist on the delegation of some services of public works to the private firm (e.g., highways, electric power facilities, water supply, etc.) [17] . In road infrastruc- ture, the most common structure of project is known as built-operate-transfer (BOT), where the private company builds and manages an infrastructure project for a well de- fined time and then transfers it to public authorities [1]. At the start of the partnership, both parties agree to the parameters and assignments of the project through a contract that will work until the lifetime of the project. Nowadays, there are several types of schemes used to make PPPs, with variations on the project’s financing, time and risks, but the main structure of delegation remains the same ([7],[12]). The scheme used on this article is described in detail in Chapter 2.1. The BOT contract scheme benefits both the public entities by providing high quality infrastructure, and the private firm through well revenued projects
Group key agreement in Android-based mobile devicesMaster's Thesis • May 26th, 2014
Contract Type FiledMay 26th, 2014This thesis deals with the implementation of chosen group key agreement protocols for Android-based mobile devices. A brief overview of this area is provided in order to support the protocol choice, with an emphasis on the Android environment properties. The thesis also contains an implementa- tion of a randomness extractor. An analysis and comparison to the random- ness source native to the environment are presented. Sources of entropy in Android-based mobile devices are investigated, and the relevant one is uti- lized in the randomness extraction process.

Group Authentication Key-based Authentication and Key Agreement for Inter- network RoamingMaster's Thesis • July 17th, 2007
Contract Type FiledJuly 17th, 2007This thesis presents a Group Key-based Authentication and Key Agreement (GK-AKA) mechanism to reduce the number of authentication messages exchanged between a serving network (SN) and the home network (HN) of a mobile station (MS). Current Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) protocols are designed for an SN to authen- ticate each individual MS in wireless environments. Therefore, when multiple MSs from the same network visit an SN, the SN needs to ask the HN of the MSs to authenti- cate each MS and return the MS’s authentication data individually. Each of these au- thentications will cause a number of authentication messages exchanged between the SN and HN of the MSs, and lengthen the handover latency, which may degrade the quality of real-time services.
