Advanced courses provide motivated, college and work-force bound students an opportunity to expand their educational experience beyond the regular program. Honors coursework develops advanced skills and content background to prepare students for the college- level work of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and for the Advanced Placement exams that will be offered in high school. Gifted and Talented (GT) Programs requiring specified admission incorporate the Honors and AP strategies as well. At the high school level, these rigorous courses carry weighted credit toward computation of class rank. NEISD instructional program is based on the philosophy that rigorous, academically challenging courses should be available to all students at the middle school level to promote and prepare them for continued educational enrichment and success in high school, college or technical training and beyond.
