English and French are the official languages of Canada, as recognized by the Canadian Constitution, as well as by the modernized Official Languages Act,1 which seeks to achieve substantive equality between the official languages of Canada (2023). The Government of Canada recognizes its responsibilities and undertakings with respect to those languages in terms of advancing the equality of status and use of English and French in Canadian society.
