Utility and Interobserver Agreement of Ultrasound Elastography in the Detection of Malignant Thyroid Nodules in Clinical Care

ORIGINAL RESEARCH
Research Study • December 20th, 2021

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Accurate and reliable detection of medium-vessel occlusions is important to establish the diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke and initiate appropriate treatment with intravenous thrombolysis or endovascular thrombectomy. However, medium-vessel occlusions are often challenging to detect, especially for unexperienced readers. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy and interrater agreement of the detection of medium-vessel occlusions using single-phase and multiphase CTA.

As different indices for grading histologic activity in ulcerative colitis (UC) exist in clinical practice, there is an interest in standardizing the histologic criteria for activity grade. The objective of this study is to assess the inter-observer agreement for histologic grade of activity in UC at a tertiary care center before and after standardization of the criteria for histologic grade.

Grammatical Gender and Number Agreement in Spanish: An ERP Comparison
Research Study • November 26th, 2004

& The role of grammatical gender and number representa- tions in syntactic processes during reading in Spanish was stud- ied using the event-related potentials (ERPs) technique. The electroencephalogram was recorded with a dense array of 128 electrodes while Spanish speakers read word pairs (Experi- ment 1) or sentences (Experiment 2) in which gender or number agreement relationships were manipulated. Disagree- ment in word pairs formed by a noun and an adjective (e.g., faro–alto [lighthouse–high]) produced an N400-type effect, while word pairs formed by an article and a noun (e.g., el–piano [the-piano]) showed an additional left anterior negativity effect (LAN). Agreement violations with the same words in- serted in sentences (e.g., El piano estaba viejo y desafinado [the m-s piano m-s was old m-s and off-key]) resulted in a pattern of LAN–P600. This effect was found both when the violation occurred in the middle of the sentence (at the adjective), as

albumin, MUST and NRI found 45, 78 and 46 patients at risk of malnutrition respec- tively. The sensitivity was 71.1% and 62.2% and specificity was 73.1% and 89.5% for MUST and NRI respectively. The agreement was fair between albumin and MUST (κ=0.35, p<0.001) and moderate between albumin and NRI (κ=0.51, p<0.001). Patients at malnutrition risk, had increased LOS, as predicted by each assessment tool: albu- min (P<0.001), MUST (P<0.001) and NRI (P<0.001). ConClusions: Inexpensive and easy to use tools like MUST and NRI can be utilized in routine clinical practice for early detection and treatment of patients at risk of malnutrition as it decreases associated healthcare costs and post-operative outcomes.

Inter-Rater Agreement of Emergency Nurses and Physicians in Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Triage
Research Study • June 20th, 2015

Abstract Introduction: Triage is one of the most important systems in patients prioritizing at the time of arrival to hospi- tal. Based on the severity of the injury and the need for treatment, this system manages patients in the least time, which could lead to rotation of patients with high reliability and safety. Currently, the most accepted method for triage is emergency severity index (ESI) system, considered as five-level triage method, too. This method were implemented in Al Zahra Hospital of Isfahan by trained nurses since March to May 2010. This study was aimed to evaluate the accuracy of emergency nursing triage using ESI. Methods: This prospective cross sectional study was carried out on 601 patients referred to Al-Zahra hospital of Isfahan through May 2010. The patients’ triage level were determined by physicians and nurses separately and the results compared. To define the level of agreement between two groups (inter-rater agreement), the kappa index was evaluated. To speci

Agreement between estimated and measured heights and weights in hospitalised patients – a restrospective study
Research Study • February 25th, 2010

The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) estimates that about 30% of all hospital patients are undernourished and need special nutritional care. ESPEN advises that all patients be screened for nutritional risk on admission. An ideal nutritional risk screening tool should be simple and quick to use by nursing staff when admitting patients to hospital. Tools recommended by ESPEN are the NRS 2002, MUST and MNA – all of which utilise body mass index (BMI = kg/m2) and require accurate recording of a patient’s height and weight.1

Agreement between different recall periods in drug utilization studies
Research Study • August 8th, 2017

ABSTRACT: Objective: To assess the agreement between three recall periods for self‑reported drug use using a 24‑hour recall period as reference. Methods: Participants were allocated into three groups with different recall periods of 7, 14 and 30 days and were interviewed at two different times. A 24‑hour recall questionnaire was answered during the first interview, and a questionnaire on drug use over the different recall periods tested was answered during the second interview. The agreement between the questionnaires was evaluated using percent agreement and kappa. Results: For continuous drugs, percent agreement varied between 92 and 99% and kappa varied between 0.71 and 0.97 for three periods tested. For drugs of occasional use, percent agreement varied between 63 and 81% and kappa varied between 0.27 and 0.52. The prevalence of drugs, particularly those of occasional use, increases with time. Conclusions: The high level of agreement between the three recall periods suggests that al

Level of Agreement Between Nasal Swabs and Cultures Taken From Diabetic Foot Ulcers for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Research Study • December 27th, 2017

Existing research has shown the predictive value of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) nasal swab testing for patient colonization, however to our knowledge, no research has shown this correlation specific to ulcerations in patients with diabetes in the in-patient setting. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a correlation between nasal culture microbiology results and those of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) cultures.

Muslim and Christian Relations in The Field of Education After The Ambon-Maluku Conflict (The Biggest Religious Conflict in Indonesia)
Research Study • August 2nd, 2021

Through the Malino II agreement on February 12, 2002, there was a peace agreement between Muslims and Christians who were involved in the Ambon-Maluku conflict that had occurred since 1999. The efforts of various parties to find solutions so that Muslim and Christian religious leaders can have a dialogue have always failed. In the end, through the cultural-based reconciliation approach of pela gandong, this religious-based civil conflict can be ended even though it is not completely resolved. Pela gandong is a system of brotherhood for the Maluku without a problem with religion. The problem after reconciliation is the damage to religious relations. Therefore, the transformation of pela gandong is carried out to be applied in the field of education and is called panas pela of education. The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between Muslims and Christians between students from SMPN 4 Salahutu Liang and SMPN 9 Ambon City through panas pela of education. Genetic analysis and RAPD markers for drought tolerance in tomato genotypes
Research Study • January 17th, 2018

Genetic parameters, heritabilities and genetic variability were assessed in five tomato genotypes and their F1 crosses using phenotypic data and RAPD markers under normal and drought stress conditions. The results showed that mean squares of the genotype by environment (GxE) interaction were found to be highly significant for all studied traits, suggesting a differential response of studied genotypes to drought stress. The magnitudes of ơ2A were higher in magnitude than those of ơ2D for most cases indicating that the additive gene action played a major role in the inheritance of these traits. Moreover, the interaction of ơ2AxE was less than ơ2DxE for most studied traits, suggesting that the additive gene effect was more stable over the environments than non-additive effect. These results were verified by the estimates of the broad- and narrow-sense heritability obtained for different traits. The RAPDs analysis showed that 31 out of 57 bands were polymorphic. The percentage of polymorph

Dis)Agreement in Parent-Child Perceptions of Injustice and Their Relationship to Pain Outcomes
Research Study • April 4th, 2016

Perceiving one’s pain as unjust and thinking about pain in a catastrophic manner are linked to worse outcomes in children with chronic pain. Dyads where the child catastrophized more than the parent experienced particularly poor outcomes in previous research. We investigated the concordance between parent and child injustice perceptions and its relationship to pain outcomes. 139 patients (age=15.4±2.1; 71.9% female) attending the pain clinic at Riley Children’s Hospital completed measures of perceived injustice, pain, and QOL. Parents completed a measure of perceived injustice about their child’s pain. Parent-child dyads were categorized into one of four groups based on concordance of injustice perceptions: (1) concordant high, (2) concordant low, (3) discordant high parent (P) – low child (C), and (4) discordant low P – high C. Parent injustice perceptions were significantly higher than child perceptions (t(138)=5.80, p<.001, d=.50). ANOVAs identified significant group differences for

Constraints Faced and Test of Agreement Among Shrimp Farmers of Palghar District in Maharshtra
Research Study • July 2nd, 2021

A study was undertaken to analyse the constraints faced by shrimp farmers in Palghar district which has highest shrimp production (2908t) in Maharashtra. The district has 796 ha brackishwater area under shrimp culture. Out of 65 registered shrimp farmers, information was collected from 55 shrimp farmers. List of constraints was prepared through focused group discussions with key informant famers. These constraints were then classified into five categories viz. extension, financial, production, marketing and infrastructural. Shrimp farmers were asked to provide their level of agreement towards these constraints on a five point Likert scale. Weighted average (WA) scores were calculated to rank constraints. Study revealed that Palghar has not been able to exploit its full potential due to various constraints. Out of this, production and extension constraints ranked high. Few remedial measures for disease had highest WA (19.4) followed by high cost of feed (17.9), less availability of qual
