<ABC School> has been selected to participate in the Evaluation of Transmissible Risk for Substance Use Disorder in Youth Validation Study being conducted by the Bloustein Center for Survey Research (BCSR), at Rutgers University. Your support is essential to the success of this National Institutes of Health-funded research [NIH funding number HHSN271201100016C] which aims to validate a questionnaire that was developed in order to measure behavioral characteristics in teens and young adults that are found to be associated with future substance use problems. These findings will help doctors and other health professionals with efforts to identify at-risk youths for the purposes of early intervention.

The Joint Science and Technology Office – Chemical Biological Defense (JSTO-CBD) has established a STEM Vault as an outreach activity to allow teachers who have participated in JSTO-CBD research and professional development initiatives the opportunity to borrow related STEM equipment and materials. The purpose of this outreach activity is to ensure that teachers are able to take their experiences and new knowledge back to their classrooms. By transferring these skills and new knowledge to students, the students will become knowledgeable in emerging sciences and in opportunities for service as civilians or military personnel with JSTO-CBD. Since a lack of resources is often a major obstacle for teachers to effectively integrate emerging sciences into their classrooms, through this initiative, participating teachers will be provided materials and ongoing access to the equipment needed for integration, via a loan agreement. The Joint Science and Technology Institute (JSTI) STEM Club is a Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) initiative that aims to create and support high-quality STEM clubs in high-needs high schools. STEM clubs are located at schools across the nation and they serve as co-curricular programming that foster additional engagement for students in their STEM interests throughout the school year. The JSTI STEM Club, managed by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), will identify a group of teachers who are committed to start or expand existing afterschool STEM clubs with the support of school administrators. This initiative provides an opportunity for teachers to participate in a multi-day workshop where the focus will be to train them on the nature of STEM clubs, curricula options, and how to use and maintain STEM equipment and materials. We, the undersigned, agree, if selected, to participate in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program. We understand the D.A.R.E. program is targeted for delivery to fifth/sixth grade students (Elementary curriculum) and seventh/eighth grade students (Middle School curriculum). A uniformed law enforcement officer will teach at least one of the 10-week curriculums of drug abuse resistance strategies that will emphasize awareness, peer pressure resistance and self-esteem.
